Beauty and the Beast

Posted on 9 May 2011 at 5:29pm by Veramii through livejournal

Given the choice, would you prefer to be the hollow, heartless but numb beauty, or the passionate but ultimately frustrated beast?

Beauty leads a merry chase but takes no pleasure in its end. Her very aloof nature draws others to her, curious and intrigued by her passionlessness, desperate to elicit passion or at least establish a beachhead of fondness under that frozen visage that will never feel.

She dances alluringly in the limelight of the popular tune, inciting others in her wake, but slips through their clutches before the song's dying chords. She is an ice maiden, a dryad in a wintery forest, exquisite and impossible and though her body is mauled by those she drives in her frenzied ballet, nothing subcutaneous is ever accessible, by her or any other. She is trapped in her own frigid wasteland, doomed to wither and die, her face a perfect beauty, a figurehead for all the imperfect desires of the world.

The beast slinks, hiding behind convenience but shows himself in passion. His heart beats. hot and ragged. as he struggles to keep out the cold despair he wears like a blanket. His desire is unwanted and he feels in extreme measures yet he is rebuked - he isn't like the rest, his vibrant core, surging with passion, frightens them.

He hides, keenly aware that his straining passion sets him apart, that his intensity is unmatched. That no one could ever feel the way he does but that he is helpless to resist, that gravity pulls him downward, into a spiralling underworld where he is nothing to his fiercest competitors.

The shadowed beast stays in the background, waiting for a gleam of recognition, a spark of humanity, that denotes a bond beyond mere convenience or politic but is caught up in the guile of the whirling beauty and as she crushes his heart underfoot, her mad dance continues unabated, without pause or recognition.
